WOMEN'S 9-BALL SEMI & FINAL ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 10 ON ESPN @ 5:00 PM EASTERN

::  HOW TIME FLIES ... It's been almost three full years since player leagues were "spun off" from the Billiard Congress of America, and the new website PlayBCA.com was launched. With separate headquarters and player operations now based in Las Vegas, the BCA Pool Leagues are managed by Mark Griffin, who administers the former "BCA" player programs with a full-time staff of seven experts. [ directory ]

Early in the process of becoming stand-alone, the BCA Pool League answered the FAQ "Does “BCA” still refer to Billiard Congress of America?"
No. The Billiard Congress of America is no longer directly connected to the BCA Pool League, and “BCA” is no more than an historical reference. Since the BCA Pool League continued unchanged, we felt we owed it to the players and League Operators to permanently acquire the name of their league.

Think of it this way: When British Petroleum (BP) acquired majority interests in Standard Oil and ARCO in the US, BP began to privatize, and the British government disposed of nearly all of its remaining shares. However, BP did not want to give up the high public recognition value of “BP.” So, when BP dropped the British Petroleum name in 2000, they said that “BP” simply means: better people, better products, big picture, beyond petroleum.

In the field, however, that re-education process is still taking place. In support of the "new" league system, the "old" Colorado Springs office has re-directed hundreds of calls from players seeking league-related answers (particularly before major events) to the Las Vegas office number. Now BCA callers will be greeted with the latest staff info, along with that re-direct information up front, in order to streamline the process of getting BCAPL league questions to the right place more promptly. Do YOU have the BCAPL number in your address book? It's 702-719-7665.

MEMBER MARKETING 101 ... From "52 Ways to Make Pool Everybody's Game"

TIP № 38

Create partnerships with popular vendors for giveaways that will draw more customers.

STRATEGY:

When you collaborate with national manufacturers, vendors or distributors, you create more powerful promotions. For example, local Pepsi® or Coke® distributors may provide free product giveaways at your room. Local Ford® or Harley-Davidson® dealerships may distribute coupons for free table time with a test drive.

EXECUTION:

  • Select and contact businesses that also appeal to your target market
  • Emphasize how the promotion will drive traffic and product sales
  • Create a mutually beneficial program that is easy for customers to understand and easy for you to execute
  • Post signage at your location and at your partner’s place of business
  • Give away each other’s product samples or coupons that will drive customers to your partner’s location
