Women's Division:
Karen Corr has won her fourth EnjoyPool.com 9-Ball Championship.
Corr faced off against Allison Fisher in the first television match
of the day after beating Fisher for the hot-seat on Thursday
evening, May 17. Corr started off in complete control and took a 2-0
lead, but Fisher came back to tie the match at 2-2. Fisher took her
first lead at 3-2, but Corr came back to tie the match at 3-3 and
then retake the lead at 4-3 and then 5-3. Fisher cut the lead to one
at 5-4, but Corr won the final two games for the 7-4 win. Corr
earned $15,000 for first place and Fisher settled for $9,000.
Defending champion Jasmin Ouschan took third.

Men's Division:
Some of the best instructors in the country were in attendance at
the BCA 8-Ball Championship, giving free instructional clinics to
the amateur players. Those clinics were nothing compared to the
clinic that Dennis Orcollo put on in the finals of the EnjoyPool.com
9-Ball Championship. Orcollo took complete control of the match from
the first game and never relinquished that control on his way to a
7-0 whitewashing of young gun Shane Van Boening. Van Boening's first
real chance to make any headway in the match was in rack six, but he
came up short on his 9-ball shape and missed the ball badly. He had
another chance in rack seven when Orcollo played a weak safety, but
Van Boening's return safe was even worse and it left Orcollo all the
chance he needed to run out the final rack. Orcollo earned $15,000
for first place and Van Boening settled for $9,000. Mike Davis
finished in third place.

2007 BCA HALL OF FAME
INDUCTION HONORS THREE-CUSHION PLAYER |
|
Three-cushion
player inducted posthumously ... on Tuesday, May 15, 2007,
the BCA named Sang Chun Lee, often times referred to as the
“human walking highlight reel,” the 51st inductee into the
BCA
Hall of Fame. Lee was honored during a ceremony held at the
Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, in conjunction
with the
2007 EnjoyPool.com 9-Ball Championships.
The tribute to Lee, the second modern-day
player known primarily for 3-cushion billiards to be inducted
into the Hall of Fame’s Greatest Players Division, was well
attended by Lee’s peers, previous BCA Hall of Fame inductees and
members of his family. In fact, Lee’s teenage daughter, Olivia,
accepted the honor on behalf of the family, which added to the
already moving and emotional evening. Lee’s wife, Kyong, was
also in attendance.

wife, Kyong, daughter, Olivia, and close friend, Ira
Lee, graciously accept the plaque commemorating
Lee’s induction into the BCA Hall of Fame.

Lee is single-handedly responsible for the
3-cushion resurgence in the United States (a game that was
nearly extinct before he arrived in the states) and for planting
the seeds of 3-cushion as a gentleman’s sport. His achievements
include: 1993 World 3-Cushion Champion; winner of five BWA
Worldcup tournaments; 12 consecutive U.S. National 3-Cushion
Championships (1990-2001); 10 consecutive Korean National
Championships (1978-1987); winner of numerous national and
international tournaments in Korea and the United States; a
personal high run of 28; and a best game of 50 points in four
innings.
Lee also opened two billiard rooms in New York
City – SL Billiards and New York City’s
Carom Café, the largest
3-cushion billiard room in the country.
Lee passed away in late 2004 at the age of 50
and is remembered by his loved ones as an individual of
unequaled generosity and warmth. Lee’s induction is a
significant moment for carom billiards and a great honor for a
man “known and admired around the world for his calm demeanor
and his imaginative style of play,” as described by billiard
writer and BCA 2001 Hall of Fame inductee, Robert Byrne. |

15, at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Top billiard pros
took challenges from highly skilled and admiring fans who made
donations to the BEF Scholarship Fund in exchange for the chance to
test their skills against the world's greatest players. Event
highlights include:
-
Over 50 (an
all-time high) Billiard Congress of America (BCA) Hall of Fame
members and pros attended to donate their time for challenge
matches.
-
Almost 200 games
were played in 2.5 hours to raise $3,550 in challenges
alone.
-
Almost $2,500 was
raised in the pool table raffle, donated by Olhausen.
-
With 40 billiard
industry contributors, approximately $3,900 was raised
during the silent auction and raffle.
-
A dozen BCA referees and
over a dozen other volunteers donated their time to make this a
successful event, including master of ceremonies, Randy
Goettlicher, and BEF President Tom Riccobene.
-
Over $3,000 was
raised for the BEF through the efforts of PL Promotions,
producer of the EnjoyPool.com 9-Ball Tournament.
A long list of BCA-member
companies donated product and services for the silent auction, and
an equally impressive list of volunteers and BCA Pool Leagues
referees all joined forces to support the higher-education cause.
The full list of
participating pros and BCA Hall of Fame members will be available

MEMBER MARKETING
101 ... From "52 Ways to Make Pool Everybody's Game" |
|
TIP № 52 |
|
|
Partner with youth organizations
to increase participation and
support your community. |
|
 |
|
|
|
STRATEGY: |
|
|
Nothing elevates the
image of pool like an
association with a
credible youth
organization. There are
many ways for you to
partner with national
youth organizations such
as Boys & Girls Clubs of
America, YMCA, Boy
Scouts, Girl Scouts or
local organizations that
work with
underprivileged
children. |
|
|
|
|
EXECUTION: |
|
-
As a room owner, donate used
equipment to a youth
organization rather than
selling it.
-
Set aside a few hours on
Saturday mornings when kids
can come to your room (with
adult supervision) for a
free hour of pool.
-
Submit public service
announcements to radio and
TV stations.
-
As a retailer, donate or
offer a deep discount on
cues, chalk and other
accessories to youth
organization facilities that
often have one or more
tables.
-
Offer free or discounted
table re-covering or cue
repair.
