BCA UNVEILS NEW WEB SITE … The
Billiard Congress of America (BCA), continuing its commitment to
enhanced member benefits and more billiard industry promotion, is
pleased to announce its new and improved Web site at
www.bca-pool.com.
“With fresh navigation
and dramatically improved functionality, the new site is focused on
user friendliness for our members, potential members and the
billiards consumer,” says Ivan Lee, BCA president. “We designed the
site to serve as the standard for our industry and to be the go-to
resource for BCA-specific updates, billiards industry news, research
and statistics. We believe that this new site will provide enhanced
value to our current members, and it will also give us the
opportunity to grow our membership base.”
The newly enhanced Web
site allows BCA members the opportunity to renew their membership
online, maintain an up-to-date company profile and access exclusive
member-only content. The site will also feature industry and
consumer research and tools for business development. Along with
many other unique new features, BCA members and the public will be
able to search for pool rooms, instructors and retailers in specific
areas.
“New fonts, updated
graphics and layouts, and intuitive navigational tools will help
users access information more quickly and easily,” notes Rob
Johnson, BCA chief executive officer. “The flexible site design will
also enable us to grow the content offerings into exciting new
areas, such as on-demand education and training opportunities.”

BCA ANNOUNCES FORMATION OF WPA COMMITTEE |
|
In its capacity as the North American member to
the World Pool-Billiard
Association (WPA) ... the BCA has announced the formation of
a WPA Committee. With the goal of uniting the professional player
organizations and youth programs in North America to participate more
effectively in the global growth of billiards as a sport and a
business, the WPA Committee is comprised of the major organizations
involved in pool and billiards in North America, including:

the BCA to maximize its participation in the WPA to the benefit of
all professional and junior players, as well as our industry.”
Members of the WPA Committee will provide input on
various issues associated with WPA participation, including player
selection processes for international events, rules and
specifications issues, potential scenarios for hosting international
events in North America and other timely topics paramount to the
sport and industry. |

Earl Strickland won the 2007 Carolina Open
One-Pocket Championship at Fast Eddie’s Sports Bar and
Grill in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
- The
United States was knocked out of the World Cup of Pool
by the Swiss pairing of Marco Tschudi and Dimitri Jungo,
who came from behind to oust the Americans. The U.S. was
considered one of the favorites to win the tournament.

Karen Corr dominated the competition and swept the
field at the Women’s Professional Billiard Association’s
(WPBA) Midwest Classic to take the top honors for the
second year in a row. The tournament was hosted by the
Riverwind Casino in Norman, Oklahoma, and it brought out
the toughest female competitors on the tour.
- Former World Champion
Alex Pagulayan bested a field of 94 billiards players
to claim the first stop of the 2007-2008 Canadian 9-Ball
Tour season.

Liz Bernier took the top honors at the McDermott Cue
New England Women’s Tour stop on September 30, 2007, at
the Silver Cue Billiard Club in Woburn, Massachusetts.
This event was a WPBA qualifier.

One of billiards greatest young talents
... Tyler Strawn, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, passed away
in an unfortunate highway accident October 7, 2007. Also a
victim in the accident was his girlfriend, Elyse Cannon,
also of Broken Arrow. Strawn was a junior national 9-ball
and artistic pool champion with an impressive list of
championship credits to his name:

In 2002, Strawn represented the United
States for the second time at the WPA Junior World 9-Ball
Championships in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, and won a bronze
medal against the world’s elite players. He also represented
the USA in the Junior World Championships on three other
occasions.
BEF President and former USA junior team
leader Tom Riccobene knew Strawn well and observed, “I am
sure most people Tyler came in contact with will immediately
remember his energy, unending competitive spirit, and, most
of all, his playful antics. He was a natural pool player and
never afraid to play. He made a difference and will always
be in our hearts.”
Strawn is survived by his mother, Elane,
father, David, brother, David II, and sister, Megan.

MLB GREAT TO KICK OFF
STEVE MIZERAK CHAMPIONSHIP |
|
Former
All-Star and Major League Baseball
great, Andre “The Hawk” Dawson, will
kick off the
2nd annual Steve Mizerak Championship
with a Celebrity Charity Pro-Am on
November 29, 2007, at the Hard Rock Live
in Hollywood, Florida. Current and
retired athletes, local media
personalities and professional billiards
players will team up to compete in the
10-ball tournament. The Seminole
Tribe of Florida will host the
championship, which will be the grand
season ending event to the Seminole Pro
Tour. With a projected field of
128 players, the payout will total over
$55,000, making it one of the highest
paying tournaments in the country.
The tournament will be televised on the
SunSports Network. Mizerak was
inducted to the BCA Hall of Fame in
1980. |
