ATTENDING A TRADESHOW: GETTING THE BEST AIRFARE |
|
Save the Date! |
|
Be
sure to mark your calendars now for the International Billiard &
Home Recreation Expo, June 25-27, 2009, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The show will be held at the Sands Convention Center. Additional
details, including exhibitor and attendee information and the
schedule of events, will be available soon on the
BCA Expo Web site. |
|
|
The Internet can be a useful tool when it comes
to finding the best airfare … and it’s really efficient if you
know where to go. Further, you don’t have to sit by the computer for
hours looking for the best rates! Here are a few ways to save some
time or money when booking a flight:
-
Utilize travel search engines. These
Web sites search the major airlines and offer the best price
options available. Some even search the not-so-major airlines
for you. Expedia,
Orbitz and
Travelocity are all
fairly well-known and comprehensive.
Kayak is another travel
search engine that has the above services, as well as one other
very useful tool — you can ask it to track your preferred
flight/search and send you an e-mail with the results. Kayak
also doesn’t charge a booking fee like some of the other travel
search engines.
-
Timing is everything — and flexibility can
save you big bucks. The flexibility to travel a day or two
before or after your first scheduled choice can be very
lucrative. So, whichever site(s) you use to do your searching,
select the flexible dates option. This will bring up alternate
dates, flights and pricing. You'll probably find that flying
Saturday is cheaper (though not so much for international).
Likewise, traveling mid-week (Tuesday or Wednesday) is usually
cheaper than Monday or Thursday/Friday.
-
Make your reservations at least 21 days
before you travel. Airfares go up dramatically the closer to
the departure date you get. Three weeks before takeoff is when
the airlines start charging latecomers for the seats that may
not be filled. So, stick with this timeline, then go back in
10 days, search your itinerary and see how much you saved!
-
Fees, fees and more fees. Airlines are
charging for more and more services today to help offset the
cost of fuel. Fees for checked luggage, in-flight meals and even
advanced coach seat selection can cost you (!).
list — by airline — of what to expect.
Have a tip for saving time or money when booking
travel? E-mail us and if
we use your idea, we’ll include your name and a link to your Web
site in an upcoming issue of
BCA Member Update. |

MEMBER MARKETING
101 ... From "52 Ways to Make Pool Everybody's Game" |
|
TIP №
15 |
|
|
Hold an
open house for past customers to
enhance their game rooms. |
|
 |
|
|
|
STRATEGY: |
|
|
Established customers
can be a great source of
future income. Since
they’re already “sold”
on billiards, the
decision process is that
much shorter. An open
house not only gives
them an opportunity to
upgrade with new
products, but also it
demonstrates that you
appreciate their
business. And when you
keep these customers
happy, they’re likely to
refer prospects to you. |
|
|
|
|
EXECUTION: |
|
-
Compile a mailing list of
your customers.
-
Create a personalized
invitation and be sure to:
include incentives (product
discounts, trick shot
exhibitions, door prizes and
refreshments); include
product flyers; emphasize
that this is a one-time
event for valued customers
only; and offer a discount
for trade-ins (you can
donate used tables and
accessories to public
service organizations).
-
Have manufacturers’ reps
on-hand to demonstrate new
products.
-
Follow up the mailing with a
phone call to encourage
attendance.
-
Reward attendees with small
giveaways bearing your logo
and address.

:: BCA
SPOTLIGHT |
|
New
BCA Board member Tom Gregory … is the general manager of
Toltec Lighting in
Burnsville, Mississippi. Toltec Lighting is a family-owned
company that he and his parents started in the late 1970s.
Gregory
worked at Toltec throughout college while completing a
degree in Industrial Management. Toltec became involved with
the billiard industry in the early 1980s, as the Toltec
Lighting product line was a perfect mix for use over
billiard tables.
“I am very proud to say Toltec has
exhibited at all 25 BCA Expos,” notes Gregory. “I decided to
become involved with the BCA Board because I firmly believe
that the BCA Expo is fundamental to the continued success of
this industry. For the BCA Expo to return to its glory days
of 1987-2003, we must produce a show the buyers consider a
must-attend event.”
Gregory is married to Deanna and has two
daughters, Amanda, 17, who is both a senior in high school
and a freshman in college, and Alison, 15, who is a
sophomore in high school. When not working at Toltec
Lighting, he and his family enjoy spending time camping,
outdoor photography and attending University of Tennessee
football games. He is also an avid narrow gauge railroad
buff, which includes spending one week each summer in the
Southern Rockies doing volunteer work for the
Cumbres & Toltec
Scenic Railway. |
