 :: MIKA IMMONEN SECOND PLAYER IN HISTORY TO WIN CONSECUTIVE U.S. OPEN 9-BALL TITLES

:: HALL OF FAME BANQUET HONORS JOHNNY ARCHER AND ALLISON FISHER

 The BCA Hall of Fame banquet honoring Johnny Archer and Allison Fisher as the 54th and 55th inductees into the sport’s hallowed shrine, took place on October 22, 2009 in Chesapeake, VA during the U.S. Open 9-ball Championships.  A group of over 200 previous inductees, industry insiders, and fans from across the country celebrated the induction of these two great players.

The BCA Hall of Fame was created over 40 years ago to recognize people that have enriched the sport and the industry. The BCA congratulates both Johnny and Allison on their illustrious careers. 

The BCA would like to thank the United States Media Billiard Association and Barry Behrman for supporting and organizing the induction ceremony during the U.S. Open 9-ball Championships.

The Hall of Fame in conjunction with the U.S. Open was a success on many levels, and the BCA looks forward to working together again in the future.

:: JUNIOR BILLIARDS CHAMPIONS TO COMPETE FOR TITLE

The Billiard Education Foundation (BEF)...is please to announce that seven junior players will be representing the United States in the XVIII World Junior 9-Ball Championship, November 3-8, in Managua, Nicaragua.

The World Junior 9-Ball Championships will comprise over fifty of the world's best junior players from six continents and over twenty countries.  The Billiard Congress of America, as the North America member of the World Pool-Billiard Association, is granted the invitations that make it possible for North America players to participate in the prestigious event. In addition to prizes and scholarships, players received an expense-paid trip to the World Junior 9-Ball Championships and an opportunity to compete for the world title.

The U.S contingent is:

  • Landon Shuffett of Greensburg, KY – 2009 BEF Junior Nationals Champion, 19-and-under boys’ division

  • Liz Lovely of Centerville, OH – 2009 BEF Junior Nationals Champion, 19-and-under girls’ division

  • Brendan Crockett of Bell Canyon, CA – 2009 BEF Junior Nationals Champion, 14-and-under boys’ division

  • Briana Miller of Allentown, PA – 2009 BEF Junior Nationals Champion, 14-and-under girls’ division

  • Jesse Engel of Columbia Heights, MN – 2009 BEF Junior Nationals, runner-up, 19-and-under boys’ division

  • Nick Tafoya of Albuquerque, NM - 2009 Junior Nationals, 19-and-under boys’ division

  • Nicole Jaynes of Albuquerque, NM - 2009 Junior Nationals, 19-and-under girls’ division

In addition to the U.S. junior players representing North America, the Canadian Billiards & Snooker Association has named three players to represent Canada.  Attending the event will be the defending world champion of the girls' division, Brittany Bryant, as well as McEarl Bucais and Ryan Spence.

Be sure to mark your calendars now for the International Billiard & Home Recreation Expo, July 14-16, 2010, in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The show will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The BCA is please to announce that 67 companies have already committed to 348 booth spaces at the 2010 Expo.  Early Bird Exhibit space sales are currently underway and will continue through November 1.

The behind-the-back 'Trick Shot' of Barack Obama… is now in pool rooms across the country.  Congratulations to photographer  John Maywer for catapulting our President to Nobel Peace Prize status.

Although Obama lost the match for prematurely sinking the 8-ball, his skill of the game impressed billiards aficionados across the globe.

Pool tables in a work environment reduce stress and promote teamwork.  By marketing to business leaders, you will increase their awareness of pool and your business.  Placing of your tables in the workplace allows you to reach an affluent audience that includes prime prospects for pool table purchases.


EXECUTION:


  • Send a mailer to CEOs and HR managers in your area emphasizing how teamwork can boost productivity in the workplace and how an on-site table can promote teamwork.
  • Include quotes from business articles about how companies are finding innovative ways to motivate employess and reduce turnover.
  • Lend a table or offer a deep discount.
  • Provide a lunch-hour instructional seminar for employess (for a list of instructors in your area, check bca-pool.com.
  • Provide employees with a special, limited-time discount at your store.

:: September sales May foreshadow Holidays

According to the Wall Street Journal...Retailers and analysts will be closely watching September sales reports due Thursday from key store chains for any sign they may need to adjust their already-gloomy holiday forecasts. For the holiday season, Deloitte Research and Retail Forward both are forecasting sales will be flat compared with last year, when sales for November and December combined slipped 2.8% to $447.5 billion, according to the National Retail Federation, which will release its own holiday-sales estimate Tuesday [more].
