Top Juniors named to compete at World Juniors

Colorado Springs, Colorado: The Billiard Congress of America [BCA] has released the roster of juniors selected to represent "Team USA" at the World Pool Billiard Association [WPA] Junior World Championships in Sydney, Australia, November 13-17.

The selection committee - comprised of BCA staff, referees and tournament officials - reviewed player performances, ability and sportsmanship at the recent Junior & Collegiate 9-Ball Championships, and tapped these hopefuls for the 2006 squad: 

  • Justin Bergman (Fairview Heights, Ill.) - Boys 19 & under champion
  • Ryan Dunn (Hillsboro, Tenn.) - Boys 14 & under, runner up
  • Anna Kostanian (Albuquerque, N.M.) - Girls 19 & under champion
  • Austin Murphy (Folsom, Calif.) - Boys 14 & under champion
  • Daniel Rakin (Daly City, Calif.) - Boys 19 & under, third place
  • Mary Rakin (Daly City, Calif.) - Girls 19 & under, runner up

The qualifying BCA junior national 9-ball event was held in July at the Student Union Memorial Center Billiards & Games Room on the University of Arizona campus in Tucson, and drew hundreds of student-athletes. [ press release ]

The Junior World Championships is an international billiards event, conducted annually by the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA). [ recordbook ]
